Public Lecture
See the detailed webpage here.Human Rights Session
Chaired by Kasia Rejzner and presentation by Ian Jauslin.
The world is becoming increasingly more dangerous for academics. The past decade has seen a significant increase in human rights violations of scientists and academics worldwide, both in so-called developed and developing countries. In some cases, scholars are targeted specifically, due to their scholarship or merely their expertise. In others, scientists are caught up in events that affect entire societies. In this session, we will discuss specific cases of violations of human rights of academics, with a slight focus on scientists, which illustrate both types of situations. We will then discuss possible actions that can be taken to help such individuals. Specifically, we will discuss programs of the Scholar Rescue Fund and the Scholars at Risk Network, which assist in extracting scholars from dangerous situations.
Portraits of Women Mathematical Physicists: a night of discussions and networking
The event is co-organized by AWMP (Association of Women in Mathematical Physics) and the ICMP organizing committee, and is sponsored by Jane Street.
As the title suggests, the event aims to create a space for discussion and networking among women in mathematical physics, but it is open to anyone interested in attending and discussing inclusivity in academia more broadly!
The event will consist of three different parts:
- A panel discussion with senior female scientists:
- Nalini Anantharaman
- Juhi Jang
- Eugenia Malinnikova
- Simone Warzel
- The presentation of the photo exhibit "Women in Mathematics from around the world. A galley of portraits" by Sylvie Paycha (https://womeninmath.net/)
- A catered networking hour
The registration is free, but the event is limited in capacity for budget reasons: up to 200 people can attend. Therefore the registration is moderated, on a gender-balanced basis. If you are interested in attending, please register by filling out the form here
The deadline for the registration is June 24.
As mentioned, there will be a buffet during the last part of the event: we will provide food with different dietary restrictions in mind: gluten/ lactose-free, vegetarian, vegan, or no restrictions. Please indicate on the registration form if you have any other dietary restrictions/allergies, we will do our best to accommodate you.
Recordings of the conference
All plenary sessions have been recorded: Opening ceremony, Plenary Talks, Henri Poincaré Prize Lectures, Early Career Award Lecture and Closing ceremony. They are available for free and to everyone, in particular to those who could not attend the conference.
